Top 10 Superfoods That Help You Lose Weight
Doesn’t it seem like everybody wants to lose weight? Unless you were gifted with a metabolism that lets you eat anything and you can still stay slim and healthy, you probably want to drop some pounds from time to time.
If you want to successfully lose weight and keep it off, start adding the following 10 superfoods to your meals.
1 – Apple Cider Vinegar
Take a little apple cider vinegar (ACV) with a high-carb meal and you eat 200 to 275 fewer calories the rest of the day. Wow! That is the finding of just one of many scientific studies that link apple cider vinegar to weight loss. ACV additionally reduces spikes in blood sugar and taking 2 tablespoons before bedtime promotes healthy weight loss as well.
2 – Avocados
The humble avocado is a powerhouse of nutrition. This fruit is primarily water, filling dietary fiber and healthy fats. Dietary fiber and healthy fats make you feel full, so you eat fewer calories throughout the day. Just 1 cup of avocado delivers between 20% and 42% of 8 essential minerals, nutrients and vitamins. All this nutrition is just 240 calories and well worth it!
3 – Blueberries
Many berries contain antioxidants, soluble fiber and other weight loss boosting properties. The antioxidants in blueberries are what make them so good at helping you lose weight. (Oh yeah, you also get vitamins C and K, manganese and copper with very few calories.)
4 – Cruciferous Vegetables
Broccoli and cabbage are cruciferous veggies, as are Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. They are super high in dietary fiber while delivering few calories per serving. You also get decent levels of protein and tons of essential minerals and nutrients which promote weight loss.
5 – Eggs
The egg is a superfood that delivers what nutritionists call a perfect protein. They are also extremely high in other health-boosting nutrients like vitamins A, D, B2 and B12. One pasture-raised, large, hard-boiled egg gives you between 8% and 35% of the daily recommended level of 12 important minerals. All that comes with only 78 calories! Pasture-raised, organic eggs are the way to go.
6 – 100% Grass-Fed Beef
It’s simple: grass-fed beef = good, highly processed meat = bad. Grass-fed beef is minimally processed and high in protein, with vitamins B3 and B12, omega-3 fatty
acids, zinc and phosphorus. These nutrients are important for optimal health and well-being, and they promote reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight.
7 – Green Tea
The catechins in green tea boost your metabolism, which means you are more capable of burning fat and calories. Since green tea is a diuretic, it helps you get rid of excess water weight. Additionally, this superfood for weight loss lowers your body’s ability to absorb and store fat.
8 – Leafy Greens
If you want to lose weight, get more spinach, collard greens, kale and Swiss chard into your diet. Other leafy greens that promote weight loss include romaine and other lettuces, microgreens, cabbage and Chinese cabbage, parsley and mustard greens. Leafy greens increase the volume of your meals while dramatically decreasing the number of calories you consume.
9 – Lentils
Lentils, kidney beans and black beans also promote weight loss. They’re extremely high in protein and fiber, a couple of nutrients you find in many of the weight loss super foods on this list.
10 – Wild-Caught Salmon
Salmon is full of essential fatty acids your body absolutely craves. These include omega-3s, shown to reduce inflammation; and inflammation is linked to obesity
and other health problems. Additionally, salmon supplies iodine, which is important for keeping your thyroid and metabolism working properly.
Salmon also delivers high levels of healthy protein, a macronutrient essential to any weight loss plan. Fatty fish like herring, trout, sardines and mackerel provide many of the same weight loss benefits. Be sure to always choose wild-caught fish over farm-raised.
Superfoods for Weight Loss Wrap-Up
Notice there are no double bacon cheeseburgers dipped in ranch on this list! No fudge sundaes either. Fast foods are nowhere to be found, and neither are highly processed foods. When you eat closer to nature your body benefits, and your mind does as well.
Weight loss is a side effect of smart and clean eating; it’s your body’s natural response when you give it the fuel it craves. Start replacing unhealthy food with the 10 superfoods on this list and you can lose weight and keep it off, while also enjoying other significant health benefits.
